Color is making a splash this year! While Pantone and others are predicting Emerald to be the color of the year, I am going in a different direction. Bright shades of all hues will be front and center in the design world. Rooms will be fun and playful with pops of color taking center stage. We have all been playing it safe with neutrals for years. The world of beiges and grays began with a mixture of textures to create interest in the monochromatic space. Slowly patterns began to creep into the designs, mixing and matching bold stripes with playful geometrics. Finally color started to creep back in through small pops found here and there, but this year is going to be a bold year. Bright colors will be seen on the walls, drapes, and furniture. Decorating with color can be tricky because you don’t want a room so bold that you are sick of it in ayear. You have to pick colors that speak to you, cheer you up and inspire. You have to mix them carefully so that the room doesn’t look like a rainbow exploded on your walls. But, when you get it right, that room will quickly become your favorite. Start small. Start with a guest room or a powder room, something that won’t stare you in the face everyday. Once you feel confident, go for the living room or master bedroom! Have fun with it!
