Lately, everywhere I look I keep finding classical chairs updated in contemporary fabrics and bright colors. The more I look at them all, the more I want them in my living room. The chairs begin to act more like an art piece than a chair, but they are durable, functional and incredibly stylish. They would definitely bring life and fun into any home, especially mine (someday!).
Another find in Lonny Magazine was Hilary Thomas’ newest project. It is such a great mix of bright colors, patterns and eclectic furnishings. I love how seamlessly everything blends together. She really does a great job of mixing old with new and adding a ton of life to the space. I am obsessed with every rug she has used, and the pendant light in the breakfast room is amazing! Hope you like it as much as me!
My boyfriend and I talk a lot about moving to the mountains. He is an avid skiier, and I would love a change of scenery for a while. Plus, the idea of becoming as good of a skier (or almost as good) as he is makes it even more tempting. My mind, of course, first travels to where we would live. I love light and airy, modern, and clean which is not your typical cabin. There will be no bear heads (unless made out of porcelain) hanging above my fireplace, and I will tear down any plaid drapery or quilts I see (especially when that quilt has been hung on the wall as someone’s not so great idea of art) as soon as I see it. An updated cabin is my idea of bliss! The Hillside House in Mill Valley, CA would be my dream inspiration. It was built by architect Scott Lee and is LEED-H platinum (one of only a few in California). Not only is it sustainable, but it is beautiful.
With the holiday season around the corner, I am finally getting into the spirit of decorating and eating. I can’t wait to bake my pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie- my favorites! Good food is always the make-it or break-it of a good feast, but a beautifully decorated table doesn’t hurt. Sometimes it seems daunting to pull the table together without looking cluttered, cheesy, or blah. These are some of my favorite table settings to hopefully spur some ideas for your own holiday gathering. I love all the different ways you can decorate/create candle holders… artichokes! Who would have thought!?!?
Carrier and Company is a husband/wife duo that started their company 5 years ago in New York. They have a very tailored classic style but are not afraid of bold colors. There is a great mix of old and new, contemporary and traditional which is why each room has such a unique feel. Also, each project seems to vary so much from the last, you can really see the client’s voice in each space. Enjoy!
I love searching etsy for fun one-of-a-kind odds and ends. I have bought everything on there from pillows to jewelry, and today I came across a shop called Sweet Mix Creations. They have adorable pulls that will add some spice to any generic furniture you might want to update for a nursery or kid’s room. It’s one of the easiest ways to take something old and make it new again, with little money and even less labor. Pulls are only something you really notice when you are making a statement with them which is why these are so fun. It’s a great unexpected detail!
